be in conversation

November 22, 2024

I wanted to share my reflection from my cherished Year of Expansion call this morning. The question was: Describe your experience of the impulse to transcend.

It’s like a gnawing sensation—a hunger to know, a desire to have, a drive to achieve, a need for more. The word “impulse” really struck me because when things are impulsive, they just… overcome you. There’s no planning, no manufacturing of your reaction; it’s not driven by effort. It’s natural. It’s within us, and it overtakes us.

Sometimes when I fight against my impulse, there’s this heaviness inside me. I feel robotic. I know that this feeling comes from not following my impulse—being detached from the knowingness within, that we all have, to transcend.

When we talk about transcendence, I think there’s confusion, especially in our “privileged” world, that to transcend means to achieve. It becomes about a desire to have. We equate it with monetary or material success, thinking if we do enough or get enough, we’ve scratched that itch of the need to transcend. And when that itch doesn’t go away, we think maybe we just need to work harder, have more, collect more, be more. We keep looking outside ourselves for it, and it’s never quite attainable.

Reflecting on my own business—because my business is me, I’m not selling a product, I’m offering a service to others—I’ve noticed that sometimes what I was offering contributed to that outward desire to have and obtain. It was a distraction from the innate impulse to transcend.

What I’m finding with Feng Shui is that it carries a different energy—a higher vibrational energy for being of service. My sincere desire is to practice what I preach. A friend of mine calls it the difference between “head knowledge” and “embodied knowledge.” I know myself well enough to recognize that teaching is also my own form of accountability. It reminds me to look inward, to stay present, and to listen to the whispers from our environment.

Our surroundings are always in conversation with us, supporting us. Sometimes, when we feel unsettled, it’s a signal that change is needed—either within ourselves or in our space. That sense of unease can get heavy enough to push us toward transformation.
When our inner world changes but our space doesn’t reflect that shift, it stops supporting us in the same way. Our space needs to match our evolving vibrational frequency. When I work with others, I want to help them use the language of their space to find balance, to recognize what’s needed to support their ever-changing self.

There’s this yearning in all of us—this impulse to transcend. Like the changing seasons, it’s completely natural. And in that transcendence, we share ourselves with the world in a way that feels authentic and important for the collective.
Energy work feels important to me. In this moment, I’m asking for universal support to help me make my offering more visible, because this is my impulse to transcend. To see, and be seen.
I want to help people develop ‘energetic eyes,’ to truly be in conversation with their space. It’s about sensing the unseen messages, rather than being fooled by what our eyes show us. Because sometimes, the visual can tell us we’ve ‘made it’—but deep inside, there’s still an impulse for more, a yearning for something deeper. When we tune into the energy of our environment, we uncover its true messages and can align it with the transformation happening inside us.

My invitation is for you to join in the conversation. It’s kinda fun and fascinating. Or, if now doesn’t feel right, I simply invite you to get curious.
